About Dr. Trudy Hartman, M.D.

I provide medical, psychiatric services. My office is located in Palo Alto, California but my clients come from across the San Francisco Bay Area, from as far south as Morgan Hill, and north to San Francisco. I also have patients from the East Bay, including Berkeley, Hayward and Fremont. I see patients from Monday through Thursday.

With over twenty-three years of experience in private practice, I specialize in child and adolescent psychiatry. However, a third of my patients are adults. I am a board certified psychiatrist and my services include diagnostic evaluations and medication management.

Successful treatment in psychiatry requires that the patient (and their parents, if a child or adolescent) and doctor develop a trusting, therapeutic relationship. I facilitate that by being responsive to and respectful of a patient's values and beliefs. I am approachable, not too formal, and use humor, when appropriate. These qualities help patients to relax, open up and tell me the history of their problem and what they hope to get out of treatment. As I develop and implement treatment plans with clients, I make sure all questions and concerns are addressed.

Backed by my strong medical education at U.C. San Francisco and Stanford University, providing high-quality, effective mental health treatment is my number one priority. I generally can offer a first appointment within a week or two, particularly if the patient can be flexible with their schedule. I try to return all calls the same day, and always within one business day. In an emergency, my patients can reach me easily outside of office hours.
